MURCHISON FALLS: Murchison Falls National Park, known by locals as “Kabalega National Park,” is the most popular and visited park in Uganda. It is located in the northwest of the country on the northern shore of Lake Albert. It is home to elephants, giraffes, lions, buffaloes, antelopes, hippos, and leopards. The park spans 3,893 square kilometers and features the most powerful waterfall in the world.
ZIWA: The Ziwa White Rhino Sanctuary is a conservation and recovery space, and the only place in Uganda where you can see this animal in the wild. It was established in 2005 and plans are underway to begin reintroducing the white rhino into its natural habitat in national parks.
KARAMOJA AND KIDEPO VALLEY: Karamoja is Uganda’s poorest and most underdeveloped region. It is located in the northeast of the country, bordering Kenya and South Sudan. In this region lies Kidepo Valley National Park, covering 1,442 km². It is the most remote park in the country and boasts some of the best-preserved and thriving wildlife. Over 70 species of mammals can be found here, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and lions. The area is also home to the town of Moroto, where you can have an immersive experience with the Tepeth tribe—hunters and gatherers native to Karamoja, who had to move to the highlands of Mount Moroto when herders settled in their ancestral lands.
SIPI FALLS: Sipi Falls is one of Uganda’s natural wonders. It is located in the eastern part of the country, in the Kapchorwa District, at the foot of Mount Elgon, which borders Kenya. This area has produced some of the country’s top runners—Olympic medal winners. Sipi offers absolute tranquility, breathtaking views, lush nature, a 3-hour hike to see the famous waterfalls (the tallest of which drops from a height of 100 meters), and some of the best coffee Uganda has to offer.
JINJA: Uganda is a water-rich country, and Jinja is the city from which you can enjoy this wonderful element of nature. The Pearl of Africa shares the largest lake on the African continent—and the second largest in the world—with Kenya and Tanzania: Lake Victoria, or “Nnalubaale” in Luganda, one of the country’s major languages. One of the two tributaries of the world’s longest river (depending on who you ask), the White Nile, flows from this lake. It’s called the White Nile due to the rapids and sediments it carries. The Blue Nile originates in Ethiopia and meets the White Nile in Sudan. From the lake and river, many activities and endless adventures can be enjoyed.
KAMPALA AND ENTEBBE: Kampala is the capital of the country, a bustling African metropolis known for its lively chaos. We recommend a visit to the Gaddafi Mosque, the largest in East Africa, offering panoramic views of the entire city from its tower, along with a traditional Ugandan music and cultural show.
Entebbe is the city where the international airport and the presidential residence are located. Situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, it is full of beaches and fishing villages, such as the Kasenyi fishing point, where a picnic is highly recommended.
