OUR COMMITMENT
Travel transforms. Let's do it responsibly.
At Viajes Matatu we believe every journey can protect nature, strengthen local communities and celebrate Uganda's cultural richness. We design responsible, safe and respectful experiences that leave a positive mark.
Our sustainability policy guides every decision at Viajes Matatu: from the selection of suppliers and accommodation through to transport, activities, wildlife protection and our relationships with communities. We work to standards of continuous improvement, transparency, respect for human rights and compliance with applicable regulations.
We reduce waste and single-use plastics, promote responsible water and energy use, and support experiences that protect Uganda's biodiversity and natural spaces.
We prioritise local guides, businesses, artisans and services. We work with professional Ugandan guides and campaign for them to be paid fairly. We foster fair and respectful relationships that generate lasting benefits and protect traditions and cultural heritage.
We follow the guidance of the authorities and rangers, keep responsible distances, and do not support activities that exploit, disturb or endanger animals and their habitats.
We invite every traveller to respect local customs, ask permission before photographing people, reduce waste, use refillable bottles and choose products made legally by local communities.
We provide pre-travel information, emergency contacts and clear guidance for acting safely. We recommend holding comprehensive travel insurance and always following the instructions of guides, rangers and authorised suppliers.
ON THE GROUND

A conservation and recovery project, and the only place in Uganda where white rhinos can be seen in the wild on a walking safari. It was established in 2005 to reintroduce the white rhino to its natural habitat in the national parks.

A community-based tourism initiative located in Musanze, northern Rwanda. It was established to improve the livelihoods of local communities through environmental conservation, responsible tourism and the preservation of Rwanda's rich cultural heritage.

Trekking is always carried out accompanied by specialised rangers and with a limited observation time. Places are very limited and can sell out several months in advance.
